Over the summer, there are many things to do during the day, but at night people might just want to sit down and watch a good show or movie. Finding that kind of show could be hard, but here are some recommendations.

One is a re-made live-action show of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” This show has an original cartoon version. This version of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” has eight episodes, and all are almost an hour long. The cast are all a brilliant pick because they portray the characters perfectly. The main cast is Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousely as Sokka, Gordon Cormier as Aang and Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko. This live-action show gives a more realistic vibe and shows more about the Avatar, Aang’s, backstory.

This show has a great amount of action, family relationships and suspense in eight singular episodes. The animation when they control the four elements like air, earth, water and fire bending is amazing. It makes it look like they are actually controlling them. Netflix even officially renewed on March 6, 2024, so there will be two more seasons coming out.

“Avatar: The Last Airbender”  has sadness, suspense, family and trauma that the characters carry. The description of the characters and their backstories are amazing, and the animation is top tier. It gives a more detailed description on characters like Zuko. The people who have watched the show know that Zuko is the Fire Lord's son and how he wants to catch the Avatar. Viewers learn why he actually wants to capture Aang. At the age of 13, Zuko gets banished for standing up to his father at a very important meeting about risking the lives of the people in the 41st division of the Fire Army. To punish him for speaking out of turn, Fire Lord Ozai challenges Zuko to a battle called Agni Kai. When Zuko refuses to fight his father, he gets banished and is told not to return unless he captures the Avatar.

Description of characters like that is amazing and actually makes the audience feel something for the characters. This means that the show actually has either some trauma or sentimental value to it.

Another binge-worthy show is “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.” This show was released  on May 4, 2023. The show is about how 17-year-old Charlotte was betrothed to King George. Though this series is a prequel to “Bridgerton,” fans can still watch without any knowledge about what happens in “Bridgerton.” The six episodes in this show, which is only one season long, are almost an hour long each.

This story includes how King George is struggling with mental issues, social anxiety and internal conflict. The actor, Corey Mylchreest, portrays a high monarch who is diagnosed with a psychosis disorder, or in other words he is bipolar. His wife, Queen Charlotte, is played by India Ria Amarteifio, who does an amazing job at playing a young girl who is told that she has to the King of England by force.

Throughout the show, viewers can tell how Charlotte slowly falls in love with George, whether he had mental issues or not. Even though she was betrothed to the King against her will, her and George’s love grows throughout the show. George at first is very distant with Charlotte because he was hiding his illness from her, and he felt that it was for the best.

He believed that a life with him wasn’t what Charlotte wanted so he chose to separate from her. He felt like since he couldn’t handle his illness that it was dangerous for her to be around him. Even when she was pregnant with their first heir, he felt like she and the baby could be better off without him.

In the end, Charlotte figures out why George was distancing himself, so she confronts him, saying that if he did not love her he would have to tell her that so she can go back to Buckingham House and raise their child on her own but only if he tells her that he doesn’t love her. George then confesses that he actually does love her.

This show is filled with love, royalty and mental struggles. It tells how even though a person deals with a mental illness, they are still loveable and deserve love, and all they need is the right person.

One more is a show called “My Life with the Walter Boys.” It has a rating of 6.9/10, and viewers are also able to watch it on Netflix. This show has a genre of teen drama. This series’ first episode was released December 7, 2023, and only has one season, but Netflix officially announced on December 19, 2023, that there will be a second season coming out.

In “My Life with the Walter Boys,” a girl named Jackie Howard, a girl from New York, is played by Nikki Rodriguez. Her parents and older sister died in a tragic car accident. She is then sent to live in Colorado with Katherine Walter, who is her mom’s best friend from college.

During her stay Jackie meets the Walters kids, 9 boys and 1 girl: Will (Johnny Link), the twins Cole (Noah Lalonde) and Danny (Connor Stanhope), Nathan (Corey Fogelmanis), Alex (Ashby Gentry), Issac (Issac Arellanes), Lee (Myles Vincent Perez), Jordan (Dean Petriw), Parker (Alix West Lefler) and the youngest, 5-year-old Benny (Lennix James).

Even though there are a bunch of kids, the only biological children of Katherine and her husband George are Will, Cole, Danny, Alex, Nathan, Jordan, Parker and Benny Walter. Issac and Lee are cousins of the Walters, and after their father was deployed as a soldier they go to live with the Walters. Parker, being used to being the only girl in the family, is a little wary of Jackie.

While Jackie is there, she finds it a little tough getting comfortable with all the Walter kids and their antics. She goes through different experiences, when two of the Walter boys, Cole and Alex, seem to take a liking to her. Cole is 17 and has a way with girls that his siblings like to call the “The Cole Effect” and a girlfriend. Alex is 16, reliable and bookish and is tired of Cole getting all the attention from girls. But that is not where the competition stems from. It starts from when Cole kissed Alex’s ex-girlfriend, Paige.

Jackie is trying to help set up for homecoming, which leads to spending more time with Alex and Cole, and when she spends with each of them separately the other gets jealous. Jackie goes through different types of stress when she has to help decide from which boy to pick and help raise money for the homecoming dance. Though in the end Jackie does pick one boy, but if anyone wants to know, they will just have to watch and find out who.
