Jasmine Harvey prepares to throw the ball.

The girls softball team is preparing for their upcoming sectional on May 20 against Southport High School. While they plan on getting a win during their sectional matches, it is up to the players to get ready for game day.

“[We] will prepare by staying focused, staying on track, keeping our heads in the game and staying together,” senior Jasmine Harvey said.

Apart from getting a win, freshman Jordyn Dever and her teammates want to “be competitive and still have fun.”

For the upcoming sectional, the trust they have in their success is high.

“I feel very confident,” senior Brooklyn Baltzell said. “I feel like this is a game we could win and a sectional that we can go very far in.”

Of course they will also have their coaches to help train them up and prepare them for their upcoming sectional, with specific skills in mind during their upcoming practices and games.

“We will be doing a lot more of some communication drills and some hitting drills because that's really been our focus,” head coach Joanne Carroll said.

With their first opponent being Southport, they feel hopeful about beating them and making it much further.

“I think we have a very good shot of beating them and getting through to [Arsenal] Tech,  winning against Tech and getting to that championship and facing whoever it’d be,” assistant coach Christina Candotti said.

This year is also Baltzell and Harvey’s last year at Warren, and Harvey said the time has gone by quickly.

“You never know how fast time goes by until it’s gone,” Harvey said. “I am grateful for the memories, clubs and activities I have joined to keep me busy and to stay focused throughout these four years. I am thankful to have a school such as this one, a family furthermore.”

While these seniors are preparing to leave this year, some players like sophomore Jordan Warbinton will have to step up and face more challenges next season.

“I feel a lot of pressure to take their spots and following in their footsteps,” Warbinton said.

As the team has faced many ups and downs throughout the season they have also had an exceptional amount of growth throughout the year.

“The team grew strong mentally,” Harvey said. “No matter the losses this builds character. It shows throughout every individual on this team as well. It brings a type of anger to the table to where you’d want to grow from mistakes and go ten times harder than what was left in the past.”
