Places to go during summer

Summer is coming soon, but while being out of school and hanging out with friends it's important for students to remember to be safe and have fun. There are so many local things to do and places to go with friends this summer.

White Rock Park, located at 7080 S. 750 E. in St. Paul, Indiana, just southeast of Shelbyville, is a big park with many things to do, such as fishing, camping and swimming in the lake. Daily visit tickets are $10 per person, with 4 and under being free, and the ticket is valid from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Camping is $40 a night for two adults, and additional guests are $15 a night, but kids who are camping with their parents are free. Fishing is also free with park admission if it is catch and release, but fishing for keep is $20 per person. It is important to note that digital waivers are required for everyone, and minors must have their legal guardian sign for them. People aged 18 and older will need their ID.

Tibbs Drive-in Theater, located at 480 S. Tibbs Ave. just west of downtown, is a great place to go and enjoy watching a movie on a big screen from a car without going to the movie theaters. It is $12 for people 13 and up and $6 for children 4 to 12. There are four different screens that show different movies at different times. The concessions have a variety of different foods to choose from, such as candies, ice cream, hot foods, popcorn and drinks.

Hidden Paradise, located at 802 E. Jefferson St. in St. Paul, Indiana, is a huge campground with RV sites, camping, water activities and cabin rentals. Cabin rates are for two adults, and for each additional person it is an extra $10. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, visitors can rent kayaks. The swimming passes are free for children under 4 years of age, $10 for children aged 4 to 12 years and $15 for individuals aged 13 and up.

The Marion County Fair, which takes place at the Marion County fairgrounds on the southeast side of town, will begin June 28 and run to July 7, with daily admissions being around $10 and it being free for children under 5 and military members with valid ID. Tickets are available for purchase so that fair-goers can get on the rides. There are many different vendors to try drinks and food from. The fair also hosts numerous events, such as a pageant, and animal events and they have park stage shows.

The Roller Cave, located at 8734 E. 21st St., just a block away from the high school, is a good place to go for people who enjoy skating. Open skating costs around $10 per person and another $4 for renting skates. There is a station to get refreshments and food for under $10. Visitors can also play some of the many arcade games that they have or get in the bouncy house.
